Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) Undersecretary for E-Government David Almirol announced the first eGovHackathon scheduled for July 21 to 22, 2026, at the SMX Convention Center Aura in Taguig City. Almirol referred to the event as may be his “last dance” in government, citing personal exhaustion and a highly polarized online environment, while sharing updated usage metrics for the eGovPH super app.

The undersecretary revealed that the eGovPH super app has reached 60 million downloads and recorded a 700% increase in usage over the 2025–2026 period. He noted that the platform has processed more than 900 million transactions and integrated 1,323 government systems.

eGovPH Growth and Integration Metrics

According to Almirol, the eGovPH super app is one of 28 digital platforms developed in collaboration with various government agencies.

“The eGovPH super app is just one of the 28 digital platforms we jointly built together with patriotic people and government agency partners,” Almirol wrote in a public statement. “I know we could do more, if only we merged forces despite of our differences and beliefs.”

He highlighted the contrast between working in the private and public sectors, stating that managing government bureaucracy and political dynamics is highly complicated. “SILENCE became our weapon. RESULTS are always the first announcement,” Almirol added regarding his team’s approach to operational challenges.

‘The Last Dance’ Hackathon Call to Action

Almirol stated that the upcoming hackathon aims to bring tech professionals together to build digital platforms for the Philippines. He urged citizens to participate and set aside political divisions to focus on public service.

“So maybe one last dance sa government,” Almirol stated. “Sa mga gusto ng mas maayos na Pilipinas – come and join the first eGovHackathon, let’s help each other to build a better Philippines.”

Expressing fatigue over online negativity, Almirol noted that social media has become a heavily politicized space. “I’m tired,” Almirol wrote, adding in a subsequent post, “Pagod na ako. We need everyone’s help.” (Read More: [Webcast Recap] DICT Usec. Almirol on PH Gov’t Blockchain: ‘No Single Vendor,’ Calls for Open Collaboration)
