Two months after its first deployment, web3 company Bitget expanded its Starlink program to Negros Oriental. The firm brought high-speed internet access to underserved communities on Apo Island and in Dumaguete City.
Bitget Starlink Program in Negros Oriental
According to Bitget, they deployed the initiative at Apo Elementary School, the only public school on Apo Island, and at the Arts and Design Collective Dumaguete (ADCD), a local creative hub.
The company said the project aims to solve long-time internet problems that have made it hard for people in education and the arts to access digital tools and opportunities.
The Negros Oriental deployment, scheduled for completion in July 2025, includes hardware installation, Starlink subscriptions, and community training.
In Apo Island, the installation of Starlink will provide the elementary school with access to digital learning materials, professional development programs for teachers, and online educational networks. Bitget said the upgrade is expected to enhance learning outcomes and community empowerment in a school that previously relied on outdated infrastructure.
In Dumaguete, the improved internet connection will support the development of ADCD’s new maker space for local artists and entrepreneurs. The space will feature digital fabrication technologies and collaborative tools designed to help creatives access the global digital economy.
“Access to the internet is access to opportunities… With PayFi Islands, we’re connecting people to education, to the digital economy, to more opportunities. These communities deserve to be part of the future, and we’re here to help make that happen.”
Vugar Usi Zade, Chief Operating Officer, Bitget
Bitget Starlink Program
The project deployment in Negros Oriental marks the second phase of the PayFi Islands program, following an initial rollout in May that connected Siargao’s Espoir School of Life and Barangay Pitogo.
Bitget’s Starlink program aims to bring high-speed satellite internet to remote communities in the Philippines, particularly those with limited or outdated infrastructure, in collaboration with Starlink.
The initiative is part of Bitget’s broader push for digital inclusion through educational programs such as Blockchain4Youth and Blockchain4Her, according to the web3 company. These efforts aim to introduce blockchain literacy, financial education, and decentralized technology training to students and women-led cooperatives in island communities.
Bitget also said the expansion stresses its long-term commitment to bridging the digital divide and promoting inclusive development in the Philippines.
