Cooking channel Mythical Kitchen has garnered 3.72 million subscribers with its culinary creations. The Mythical Kitchen team has cooked for the likes of Gordon Ramsey and Tom Hanks, and turned fast food favorites into dishes worth hundreds of dollars — a $456 McRib, anyone?
With their endless creativity and enthusiastic fanbase, Mythical Kitchen’s Josh Scherer, Nicole Enayati, Trevor Evarts, and Vianai Austin took to the stage at VidCon to present their most delicious, disgusting, and even confusing dishes. Emily Fleming, co-host of Mythical’s Meals of History, joined the crew to act as the deciding vote on which dishes topped the rest.
The most delicious dish they’ve ever made
Each member of the Mythical team came prepared with their nomination for the most delicious meals ever made. Among them was Scherer’s fancy crunchwrap supreme, which cost $255 to make and included Wagyu shin meat. Enayati nominated her grilled cheese ramen, which from the description alone sounded like a warm hug on a rainy day with its tomato noodles, pork, and cheese broth, and Tonkatsu grilled cheese. Evarts submitted one of his favorite fancy fast food challenges, a $274 take on the Burger King breakfast sandwich that involved wrapping breakfast sausage in pounds of butter. Austin rounded things out with the pho fries, which were a Vietnamese-inspired take on Poutine with pho-broth gravy and thinly sliced meat.
But what was the most delicious meal? Fleming decided that the grilled cheese ramen was the winner.
The most disgusting dish ever made for Good Mythical Morning
Many people would be fired for serving their boss the most disgusting dish imaginable, but that’s just simply part of the job at Mythical. The team’s next task was to rank the most disgusting dishes they’d ever served to hosts of Good Mythical Morning, Rhett & Link.
Scherer offered his cow-bile cheesecake, while Enayati presented her bagel recipe inspired by the biblical plagues, which included blood cream cheese. Meanwhile, Evarts nominated his pig anus Uncrustable, and Austin showed off her fish-eye cannoli.
Scherer took the crown on this one with the bile cheesecake, which triggered an intense physical response upon eating it due to its extreme bitterness.
Mashable Trend Report
What’s the trickiest dish they’ve ever made?
Blood once again made an appearance when the team was asked what the trickiest dish they ever made was. Scherer presented his panko-crusted and deep-fried milk carton. Enayati delighted in sharing her pig’s blood-infused dessert, with blood-whipped cream that had to be tempered just right for food safety, but not so hot that it would curdle the whipped cream. Evarts showed off the Beef Wellington, which he had the honor (or horror) of serving to chef Gordon Ramsay. And Austin talked about the struggle of making a croquembouche, and the delicate sugar work involved in the process.
Evarts easily won this one with his intricate Wellington that even impressed Gordon Ramsay.
Which Mythical Kitchen dish would confuse aliens?
Among all the weird concoctions in the Mythical Kitchen, they now had to create a dish so weird that it would confuse extraterrestrials.
Scherer presented his freezing-cold Cheetos, which required buying pure menthol crystals online. Enayati once again nominated the bile cheesecake, thinking the aliens would wonder what would possess someone to make something so disgusting. Evarts nominated the Ruffles Snickers, an abomination of two favorite snack foods. Austin took a different approach and offered up a simple answer: steak, noting that something so familiar might confuse the aliens. Her innovative thinking won her this category.
What dish would you put on a restaurant menu?
While the Mythical team is used to putting their creations out on the internet, Fleming asked them which dish they’d put on the menu if they owned a restaurant. Austin offered up the short rib and caramelized onion lasagna she and Enayati made, while Evartsoffered up his 15-minute steak with gorgonzola gnocchi. Enayati nominated her spicy tuna latke she made with Evarts in a latke battle while Scherer put up his Dungeness crab and curry mac and cheese.
The most restaurant-worthy dish? Austin’s short rib lasagna.
What dish the Mythical Kitchen team is most proud of?
Among all the deliciousness, the team got earnest when it came to what dish they’re the most proud of. Evarts revisited his beef Wellington that pleased Gordon Ramsay, while Austin noted her Lunchables lasagna, one of the first dishes she ever made at Mythical.
Enayati shouted out her mac and cheese recipe, which she stands by as the best she has ever made. She even keeps the recipe pinned to her X account. Scherer revisited the first episode of Meals of History, which included the dish Tournedos Rossini, an all-time favorite of one of his mentors.
The winner? Scherer.
